| 2001 NCAA
Rifle Championship Results
This
weekend was a total success for Matt Emmons from University of
Alaska. The sophomore
from New Jersey had
the highest score in all four events, and won four NCAA
Championships.
He started out the weekend by winning both individual titles
and continued Saturday with two
team titles leading his team in both events
In
the team events, UAF won with almost 60 points in
smallbore, with 1180 by both Emmons and
Melissa Mulloy, followed by Per Sandberg 1179 and Karl
Olsson 1171. Second in the smallbore
event was West Virginia with 4651, lead by Steve
Powell 1173, Cory Willis 1168, Wade Tyner 1160 and
Tommy Caranasos 1150. Third team in this event was
Kentucky with 4636. |

UAF practice day
|
In the
smallbore event, UAF won with 26 points. The team was lead by
Emmons 398, Sandberg 394, Mulloy 391 and
Olsson 390. They were followed by Nebraska 1547, were Melissa Downsbrough
and Amanda Trujillo both had 393.
Third team in the air-rifle team event was surprisingly
Jacksonville State with 1544. JSU only qualified in the
air-rifle
event, and the team was lead by Kelly Dove with a 392.

Team Day - Smallbore
|
In
the aggregate team championship - which is the main
Championship - UAF won with 108 points before University
of Kentucky, which showed that consistency is the key as
they got third and fourth in the team events but got
second in
the aggregate. Third was West Virginia that was only one
point behind UK. |
This
was the third straight title for UAF, who took over the
winning streak from WVU - which one pretty much everything
from the early 80's until late 90's. The 2-6 place was within
a 40 point margin, which shows that there are many teams
out there with great shooters. Many of the teams are very
young with freshmen and sophomores on their starting teams,
so with some experience the scores can be even better.
This is
the last news letter with scores for this season. We will be
back next season with new updated features.
Please look back at our site periodically, as we are planning
major additions over the next month. If you have any
good articles about competitive rifle - such as training
methods, equipment, matches etc - please send them to us
at info@riflesports.com.
We will also add an online store to our site during this
summer, to make more clothing and
equipment available to shooters in the US.
Thanks
for this season!
