The Importance of Hearing Protection

Even if the noise from an air rifle is minimal, it is enough to cause damage to your hearing. The fact that you are shooting indoor and often together with other shooters, makes the risk for later hearing problems significant. The catch with hearing problems is that you probably won't realize it until it is too late.

Therefore, you should try to use hearing protection when you shoot. It doesn't just protect your ears, it also allows you to shut if all distracting noise around you while you shoot. There are different kinds of protection, with the ones covering your entire ear working the best. But the most important part when deciding what kind of haring protection to get is how comfortable they are. No matter how good they are, if you aren't wearing them they will not protect your ears at all.

The easiest one is the small yellow ear-plugs that is available everywhere. The drawback is the not-so-good protection, they expand in your ear - can be uncomfortable and they get dirty very fast. The plus is that they are cheap and you can alw ays pack a few pairs in your bag for back up Yellow Neons

.

The custom molded ear plugs feels better and they have better protection than earplugs, but they can cost up to $50 for a pair. For the same money you can get earmuff hearing protection that has even better protection. The only thing to consider is the thickness of the muff. If it is too thick it might be in the way when you but your cheek on the cheek-piece. There are version that has a cut-out in the bottom of the right muff to allow for a better fit with the cheek-piece.
